These herbs in tubs are top quality products. They are growing in certified organic soil with an all organic slow release fertiliser already mixed through.
All you need to do is water them! And even then the tubs have a water reservoir built in. So the tubs can go a few days with out watering. We have combined herbs with similar water requirements in tubs together.
We suggest it is better to water your herbs thoroughly on an occasional basis than to water them lightly but frequently. In hot weather, check the soil daily to ensure that it does not dry out. Water in the mornings rather than the evening, as water left on the plant overnight can increase its susceptibility to fungus. Use a spray attachment of your hose as the softer herbs, especially the basil, have led very sheltered lives growing up in hothouses so can’t handle too much (water) pressure.
When you do water the tubs, check the soil if the top two- three centimeters is dry give the tub about 4 litres (1 watering can)
We have tried to provide a variety of different herbs but would like to work with you to develop a garden that serves your kitchen. Let us know if you want more of a particular herb for next time.
Please try to protect the herbs (& soil) from smokers. The tubs are not ashtrays.
Harvesting
Harvest herbs in the morning when moisture and fragrance are at their peak. However, wait to harvest until after dew has dried.
When picking Basil and Mint take the tips of the stems, for all others take the largest leaves.
You can use scissors to cut the Chives down to 2cms above the soil level.
